After a long day, we were ready for our next resting place. Westport Beach was the target - also the last spot with area services for some time. We exited Hwy 1, bounced over a rocky entrance and picked a somewhat muddy, but grassy spot close to the sand with a wooden bench table, tree and partial water view. Luckily, it wasn't crowded - we had no direct next door neighbors. The Westport Beach RV Park & Campground (in Mendocino County) closes at 4pm, but they leave the available site info out front so drop-ins can take the map, choose a location and pay the next morning. Convenient! Beginning to appreciate these occasions.
We launched our set-up routine and strolled to the water at Wages Creek Beach to stretch out & view another glorious sunset. Joel ventured back to Max - I stayed for the incredible after- sunset hue pics.
Again, we landed at a site with a connecting body of water that meets the ocean (Wages Creek)...displaying seriously dramatic landscape! I had the pleasure of stepping onto a very deceiving sand bank - all I have to say is thank God for fast reactions and solid shoes. It was a really uncomfortable 10 seconds. I'll leave it at that.
Really must take a moment to acknowledge our new Xpeti hiking boots (AKA Manfen). Joel and I ordered the same brand and style - we're both 100% satisfied with traction, durability and comfort. And they've definitely been tested. Props.
For dinners, we usually find ourselves putting together leftover restaurant/snack items, switching off at the helm. Fortunately, we still had some fresh produce and groceries from the Gualala shopping run! Mornings consist of coffee from our small and weighty, but durable Nespresso machine (it dropped and lived), eggs with toast, oatmeal/cream of wheat or, we just unhook and grab food as we go.
There's not a whole lotta space in Max's containers, but we squeeze in what we need. And we always buy fresh water jugs on our outings.
I woke up early to walk along the beach one more time - it was incredible to again be the ONLY one out there taking in the chilly morning sea air, pounding surf sounds and zen tranquility while searching for beach gems. Happy place, for sure.
Joel joined for a while, then we ventured back to Max, packed up, and left for another curvy & picturesque drive to... Arcata.
